You get what you put out there

You know how people say that you should try to bring positive vibes into the universe and good things will happen to you? Well, maybe you don't hang around with so many spirtually obsessed people like I do, but I'm sure you've heard something similar before. Well, I recently found out that it's true.

I have this new job where I hand out flyers/vouchers in the streets for a local hairdresser. I was a bit nervous on the first day, because I was worried if I would manage to hand out as many as my boss wanted to or if noone would take them. Also, my Mum asked me if this was really the job for me as I had a job before where I had to talk with lots of people on the street in order to sell them something and (at least according to my Mum) I sucked at it.

But in this new job handing out flyers? I don't suck. Not at all. In fact I am handing them out twice as fast as expected and (even better) it's fun! Also I feel like through this job I have become more open and approachable. People notice me more and people talk to me on the street all the time, asking me if I want to participate in something, etc. Also people I don't know at all suddenly greet me and I can just assume that I've handed a flyer to them some time. Plus, the craziest thing happened to me today. A girl on the street working for the company I once worked for (you know, talking to people in order to sell them something) approached me and offered me my old job back.

Which leaves me with two thoughts: First, I must be a completely different person than I was seven years ago. Which is probably totally normal and healthy. Second, you truly get what you put out there. If you try to be open and confident and motivated and happy, oppurtunities will come your way. It might feel weird in the beginning but it's really the little things which make all the difference. So for the start here's another clichée that's true: A smile can go a long way.

Things I've learned after opening my eyes to what's going on in the world - Part 4

Here's my most current collection of interesting, eye-opening and mind-blowing things I learned about while reading the newspaper regularily. Check out part 1, 2 and 3, too.

*show me who your parents are and I tell you what you'll become - this is true in Germany, too, kids who's parents are workers or foreigners are disadvantaged, only a few of them finish High School, but the gap between those kids and the rest decreases

*the pharmaceutical industry in Germany give €575 million to doctors who then precribe the drugs the industry wants to make money from, but some of this money also goes towards research, now there's a new law which states that doctors can make it public who they get money from and for what but they don't have to, in the US they have to make it public which would be a lot better over here, too

*rich people are now investing in space travel: Paypal and Tesla founder Musk funded Red Dragon a probe which is supposed to travel to Mars in 2018, Bigelow founded a modular unit which is sent to space and then inflated, other rich guys who invest in space travel are Amazon founder Bezos, Richard Branson and Steve Hawking

*the people who really have power are not the politicians but the political advisers, one of them is Gerald Knaus, he invented the Turkey deal of the EU (keeping refugees in Turkey and in return it will be easier for Turkish citizens to immigrate to the EU), but the plan created a new problem: in Greece there are now 8500 refugees and only 16 officials, Plan B is to imprison the refugees on a Greek island

*some current developments in Germany: everywhere (not only here) economical growth is decreasing, 46% of Germans (and 71% of Afd voters) think that they could do politics better than the politicians, most times all of Germany's important media is backing Angela Merkel, the real problem about TTIP is that it is negotiated in secrecy

*apparently democacy is not the end of history after all

*today there is a global Apartheit which describes the gap between poor and rich countries

*a view inside North Korean prisons: many of the prisoners don't even know why they are held prisoner, North Korea also still has collective punishments which means that people are inprisoned because their husband, father, sister or even a distand uncle did something wrong, in prison if a woman is caught with a guard she is punished even if she was raped

*the universe should actually be entirely made up of light but there  is matter (us) which is pretty much impossible, matter is created when particles and anti-particles meet but the problem is that they actually should destroy each other immidiately (because if particles and anti-particles meet each other there's a destruction and what stays is pure energy which is what space ships in Science Fiction are fueled with or you could create a huge bomb with this energy), but despite all odds the anti-matter disappeared but why? and where did it go? there are two possible solutions: either there's a difference beween matter and anti-matter that we don't know of, yet, or somewhere in the Universe there are whole galaxies made up entirely of anti-matter

*in Lybia after Gaddafi died in 2011, they put a lot of money into rebuilding the city Sirte, but because of this there was a lot of crime and with this chaos within the city, then a islamistic group called Ansar al-Scharia appeared in the city, soon after there was a preacher and mysterious female beggars who are thought to be ISIS spies, then ISIS themselves entered the city, the government dissolved and there is no police anymore, now there is war once again; Salafists are in their believes very similar to ISIS (except that they accept a worldly leader) but their preacher critized ISIS, was killed and publicly hung up, which is why now Salafists fight next to liberal students against ISIS, Sirte is occupied by ISIS members of foreign countries (Tunesia, Egypt, Sudan, Iraq), they recrute mostly poor people, in Sirte there's now a strict dress code, certain prayer times and regular amputations and excecutions, the people there are asking Why isn't the West helping us? and they thing that if we're not helping them, we must be helping ISIS, but in thruth the West has already forgotten about Lybia

*in Germany are 2750 mosques, 45000 churches and 130 synagoges, of the muslims still 75% are Turkish and mostly Sunnis

Movie Recommendations - Edition: This year's Blockbusters (Part 2): Interstellar Decoded

All my friends told me to watch Interstellar for months because I would definitely love it and of course they were absolutely right (because I obviously have the greatest friends on Earth). I love astronomy. It's one of my favourite things in the world (and beyond). And I'm also a huge fan of mind-blowing science fiction movies.

Interstellar is a unique movie because it combines actual scientific theories and ideas with science fiction plotlines which are impossible today but might be a normal thing in thousand years.

In this post I will decode the movie Interstellar, make sense of the sometimes a bit demanding story and give astrophysical background information. Because Interstellar is proof how amazing ouw universe really is!

Warning: This post contains Spoilers.

The Story:

Earth's vegeatation is affected by Blight which led to starvation of the world's population and is threatening to extinct the human race.

Background Info:
Blight is an infection which affects plants which then turn brown.
Chlorosis develops, which means that plants have insufficient chlorophyl and die.

A special NASA department called "Lazarus missions" has discovered a Wormhole near Saturn.

Background Info:
To understand Wormholes, imagine that the universe was 2D.
Everything in it can only travel in 2D, except if you travel through a Wormhole.
Through a Wormhole you could travel in 3D.
In reality the universe is in 3D and through a Wormhole one could therefore travel in an unknown higher dimension and travel to places far away.

On the other side of the Wormhole in Interstellar astronauts have found three potentially habitable planets which all orbit a supermassive Black Hole.

The first planet is called Miller. Miller is really close to the Black Hole which is why one hour on Miller equals seven years on Earth. This is why the expedtion crew looses a lot of time on this planet just to find out that it's inhabitable because there are huge waves.

Background Info:
Gravitational Time Dilation means that time is different at different places in the universe.
The closer something is to a source of gravitaion, the slower time passes.
A Black Hole has a lot of gravitaion. Therefore near it time moves slower.
Infact inside a Black Hole there is Gravitational Singularity.
The Gravitational field here appears infinte.

The second planet is Mann which also turns out to be inhabitable because it's too cold.

The third planet, Edmund, finally is habitable.

NASA'a Plan A is to bring people to a habitable planet to keep on living there when Earth becomes inhabitable. They struggle to find out how this might be possible because there's not enough time left but because of a science fiction plotline they succeed in the end.

Plan B is to bring frozen embryos to a habitable planet and to start humanity anew. This is what they do on Edmund.

The science fiction plotline:

In the beginning of the movie the main character Cooper's daughter Merph notices mysterious signals from an unkown creature in her room. In the end of the movie we find out that the signals were actually sent by a Future-version of her father Cooper who sends her the equation which solves the problem of bringing people to a space station from the Future. Merph uses it and everyone is saved.

Though-provoking impulse:

The idea behind this science fiction plotline is that future humans will be able to travel not only through the three dimensions of space but also through the fourth dimension of time. If you keep in mind that time in fact (as Einstein found out) is relative, this idea might not be as crazy as it seems. In a thousand years we might be able to manipulate time.
